Developing Confident, Responsible Learners...

Curriculum

Learning at Manor Field Junior School

At Manor Field Junior School, we are very proud of our approach to learning, which aims to develop confident and curious learners.

We want our pupils to be successful in the future, whatever their strengths.

We celebrate and value the diversity of our pupils and want our pupils to be successful in the future.  We are committed to valuing and developing our Manor Field learning attributes, such as independence, as well as academic skills.

Our inspiring curriculum is based on a thematic approach to learning - where real links and connections are made between subjects. We believe that children learn best through purposeful learning opportunities which are rooted in realistic and meaningful contexts.

So what does this mean for your child?

Our learning projects are rooted in first hand experiences; experiences are planned that will motivate and engage the pupils, whilst developing their resilience and confidence to take on new challenges.

All of our project themes are carefully selected to meet the objectives of the National Curriculum in a tightly focused way, yet are matched to the interests of the child.  Our conviction that children learn from first hand experiences means that we provide rich and varied opportunities for them to develop their learning through enrichment.

We make good use of the local environment and our wider community, and encourage the children to take pride in Basingstoke.  We have links with many local businesses, churches and retail outlets, where we arrange educational visits to further enrich our curriculum.  In addition, visitors support learning in school on a regular basis whether they be drama groups, sports coaches, other professionals or other members of our community.

Our curriculum is designed through projects which last from one week to half a term.  Each project has a lead subject and two other main subjects, along with subsidiary subjects.  To view our curriculum overview, please click here.  Our projects are enriched through visits and visitors.  To find a copy of our enrichment opportunities for cohort, click here.

If you want to find out what your child will be studying in each subject within their project, please look at our curriculum areas and, of course, ask us if you require any guidance.
